The War of 1866 Museum at Chlum

Exhibition about the Austro-Prussian battle of Hradec Králové

Experience the largest military engagement in the 19th century Bohemia and Moravia at the War of 1866 Museum exhibition at Chlum, supplemented by examples of weapons and equipment used by the Austrian and Prussian armies. The atmosphere of the tragedy of the battle of Königgrätz from the common soldier´s viewpoint is dramatically evoked by a short fiction film.

Visit the historic battlefield site with hundreds of artistic monuments and memorials, which are mementos of over 50,000 killed, missing, wounded and imprisoned soldiers. The surroundings of the museum can be admired from a nearby lookout tower.

Memorial events marking the anniversaries of the battle are held every year in early July, culminating in re-enactment of a large battle scene. Around 500 soldiers in uniforms, historical cannons and troops on horseback take part in the battle scene re-enacted in authentic locations and accompanied by multiple pyrotechnic and visual effects.
